# Risks you accept

> What can go wrong, who carries it, and what Tickside is not.

You confirm these when you create your account. Read them before you trade, not
after. This page is a plain-language summary; the
[Terms of Service](https://app.tickside.com/legal) are the agreement that binds.

<Warning>
  You can lose everything you put at stake. You trade at your own risk and you
  alone carry the outcome of every position.
</Warning>

## What Tickside is

Tickside is a front end. It shows you a venue's market and sends the orders you
choose to that venue.

* **Your funds are never with Tickside.** They stay in your wallet or in your
  account at the venue, for the whole time you use the app.
* **Tickside cannot move, freeze, recover or reverse them**, and cannot trade on
  your behalf.
* **Tickside never receives your private keys.** The Privy wallet's key is held
  by Privy and never reaches Tickside. An imported venue key is entered and used
  in your browser and is never sent to Tickside servers. See
  [Security](/account/security).
* **Tickside gives no advice.** Every price, figure, chart and P\&L on screen is
  information, not a recommendation. Every decision is yours.

## Risks of trading here

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="You can lose your whole stake" icon="money-bill-trend-up">
    Prediction markets settle to a result. A position that loses pays nothing.
    Lay exposure can be several times the figure you typed, depending on the
    odds and the stake mode you are in. Risk only what you can lose entirely.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="An order may not reach the venue, or may not fill" icon="plug-circle-exclamation">
    Latency, disconnections, venue outages, rate limits, maintenance and errors
    in a venue's own systems are outside Tickside's control. An order can be
    late, partly filled, rejected, or never placed at all. Never assume a
    position exists because you clicked.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The figures on screen can be wrong" icon="chart-line">
    P\&L, exposure, fees and positions are Tickside's best reconstruction from
    the data available. Market data, scores and fixtures come from third parties
    and can be incomplete, delayed or inaccurate. **The venue's own record
    prevails** in any discrepancy.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="A transfer cannot be called back" icon="right-left">
    Deposits, withdrawals and transfers between venues run on blockchains and
    venue bridges. Once submitted they are final. A wrong address, a wrong
    network or a wrong amount cannot be undone by Tickside or by the venue. See
    [Deposit, withdraw and transfer](/account/funding).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Losing your key means losing the account" icon="key">
    Because Tickside never holds your keys, it cannot restore them. If you lose
    an imported key, or clear the only browser holding its encrypted copy,
    access to that venue account is gone. Tickside support will never ask you
    for a key, seed phrase or passphrase. Anyone who does is not Tickside.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Your jurisdiction may not allow this" icon="globe">
    Every venue restricts access from certain countries under its own terms, and
    those restrictions reach you through the venue whatever else you agree to.
    You are responsible for the laws that apply where you are, including tax,
    gambling, financial services and sanctions law. Tickside detects and records
    the country a connection appears to come from, and may refuse or restrict
    access. Geolocation is imperfect and is not a permission.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The software is young" icon="flask">
    Tickside is independent beta software. It changes often, it can contain
    defects, and a defect can cost money on a live market. Nothing here is
    guaranteed to be available, uninterrupted or correct.

## Before you trade live

<Steps>
  <Step title="Start in PAPER">
    Paper mode uses live prices and places no order. It is the only way to learn
    the ladder without money at stake. Its results do not predict live outcomes.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Know what your stake means">
    The **S / L / E** control changes how much risk the same number carries. Read
    [What your stake means](/trading/the-ladder#what-your-stake-means) before
    switching to LIVE.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check the account and the venue">
    Confirm which venue and which account the ladder is trading before the first
    order. Cash and exposure always belong to the active account for that venue.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Size for a total loss">
    Put up only what you can lose completely, and keep enough outside the venue
    to not need what is inside it.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  If any of this is not acceptable to you, do not use Tickside for live trading.
  Paper mode remains available and risks no money.
